Companies research these deposits with the Re-Os dating method. Re-Os dating gives geochemistry analyses, mine analyses, mantle and crust relations, and sea-water analyses. Rhenium ( atomic number-75) and Osmium ( atomic number-76) move from seawater to sediments which is anoxic and then builds up. Rhenium and Osmium show positive trends against Organic Carbon. Re-Os dating is a beneficial method because the error margin is usually very minimal.
